The closing data for 2024 of the Consortium of Pinot Grigio delle Venezie confirm that the problems of the wine market mainly concern red wines.
The emblem of Italian white wine in the world in fact closed last year with growing numbers both in terms of bottles produced and in the quantities of certified wine: bottled wine marks a +3% while certifications do even better with a +8% on 2023.
Numbers that also demonstrate how it is possible to successfully manage large and articulated territorial realities if shared objectives are formulated.
The Doc delle Venezie in fact extends from Trento to Trieste, covering territories with different histories and wine cultures, which however find a common identity in the stylistic profile of the characteristic, homogeneous and recognizable Pinot Grigio, within the territorial specificities.
“If we analyze the data of the last calendar years since the birth of the DOC, 2024 ranks third in terms of performance, clearly excluding the two years of strong growth linked to the pandemic period which saw an exceptional demand for DOC Delle Venezie by the market – underlines Stefano Sequino, Director of the DOC Delle Venezie Consortium and continues – The numbers reflect the state of health of the DOC Delle Venezie and in particular the growth of the bottled product is a result that speaks for itself, demonstrating how Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie is able to respond to the needs of consumers”.
Actually, the exceptional growth of the pandemic period is particularly interesting and significant because it demonstrates the solidity and reliability of the image of Pinot Grigio delle Venezie DOC, too often wrongly considered a commodity.
The Consorzio DOC delle Venezie therefore presents itself as a model of best practice to follow both for the ability to enhance the proposal and that of coordinating the offer, with certifications increased from 134,420 hectoliters/month in 2023 to 146,112 hectoliters/month in 2024.
“This increase in certifications and in the use of wine obtained in the last harvest is significant of a market demand that remains stable and lively. Furthermore, the transition from a monthly average of 134,420 hectoliters certified in 2023 to 146,112 hectoliters in 2024 highlights not only a good use of the certification system but also effective production planning by our members. It is important to underline here – concluded Stefano Sequino – how fundamentally important it is to apply the supply management measures promoted by the Consortium, tools that help maintain a condition of stability that represents great value for our markets”.
A far-sighted management also from the point of view of transparency towards the market that is showed on each bottle by the affixing of the State Mark to guarantee the controls carried out by the third party Triveneta Certificazioni, but which was also highlighted in the tasting organized on the occasion of the conference last December, providing participants with a detailed chemical-physical analysis of the wines being tasted.
