Feel Venice with the Consorzio Vini Venezia

(Lorenzo Biscontin)In Venice, gardens are places that add further magic to the magic of an “impossible” city.

The green spaces between the stones that make up the city and the salt of the lagoon waters on which it stands already seem unimaginable and the discovery is made even more exciting by the fact that almost all Venetian gardens are invisible, enclosed within the walls of the buildings.

Add to all this that the Mystical Garden of the convent of the Discalced Carmelite Friars hosts an urban vineyard and you will begin to understand why participating in Feel Venice is a unique experience.

Literally a stone’s throw from the exit of the Santa Lucia train station, just turn into a narrow street to leave behind the swarm of tourists and find yourself in a place truly out of time.

Founded in 1649, the convent’s brolo was completely renovated in 2015 thanks to the collaboration with the Consorzio Vini Venezia.

In the current vineyard there are 17 varieties that represent those anciently cultivated on the islands of the historic center, such as Dorona and Malvasia, and those typical of the Venetian hinterland, where the nobles had their own countryside, from which the friars produce about 1,000 bottles of white wine and red wine every year.

With the Feel Venice event, the Consorzio Vini Venezia offers wine lovers the opportunity to learn about the Mystic Garden and the wines of the denomination.

On Saturday 5 July the program opens at 11:00 with a guided tour of the vineyard.

From 12:00 to 13:00 there will be guided tastings of Incrocio Manzoni and Refosco produced by the wineries belonging to the Consortium, followed by a light lunch.

In the afternoon the guided tasting will include both international and native vines (from 15:00 to 16:00) followed by a guided tasting in the garden.

From 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm there will be a guided tasting of Lison, the white DOCG of the consortium, while the last tasting, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, will be dedicated to the red DOCG: Malanotte del Piave.

New to this year’s edition is the tasting of wines from large-format bottles from the producers’ reserves, which will be held at 6:00 pm accompanied by live music.

Last tasting in the garden will be at 7:15 pm, followed by a light dinner to (literally) close the gates at 9:30 pm.

Throughout the day, the Consortium’s wineries will be present with their own tasting stands where it will be possible to taste the wines: Terre Maddalena, De Stefani, Antonio Facchin, Furlan Vini, Castello di Roncade, Ai Galli, Villa Bogdano, Piazza AGS, Luigino Molon, Musaragno, Ornella Bellia, Valle Frassina, Ornella Molon, Vi.V.O Cantine, Frassinelli, Mazzolada, Tenuta San Giorgio, Vigne del Bosco di Olmè, Cantina Rizzetto, Le Carline.

All the information about the event can be found on the dedicated page of the Consorzio Vini Venezia website. Feel Venice, Venice and wine as you have never seen them before.
