Pignolo, a native vine of the Colli Orientali del Friuli, is a winemaking excellence that has its roots in the 15th century. Highly sought after for its complexity and distinctive character, it is a vine that has attracted growing interest among wine enthusiasts in recent years.

Characterized by small and compact bunches, it produces wines of great depth, elegance and longevity. Pignolo grapes grow mainly on the hills of Prepotto, Premariacco, Rosazzo and in the municipality of Cividale del Friuli, where the temperate climate and marly soils favor perfect ripening.

La Tunella was founded by Livio Zorzettig in 1986, today at the helm we find his sons Massimo and Marco who have chosen to name the company with the ancient toponym of the hill that rises near the winery: La Tunella.

The property has 70 hectares of vineyards that develop in the Friuli Colli Orientali denomination, the most valued varieties are the native ones: Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia, Refosco dal peduncolo rosso, Schioppettino and Pignolo.

Pignolo 2018 by La Tunella is a wine that does not go unnoticed. Obtained exclusively from Pignolo grapes harvested manually in the first week of September; subsequently the must ferments for about three weeks with frequent pumping over to favor the passage of color and noble components. The wine obtained ages for four years in new oak barriques of first passage and refines for a year in the bottle before being released on the market.

The result is a wine that conquers from the first glance. Pignolo 2018 presents itself with a deep ruby ā€‹ā€‹red and garnet nuances. On the nose it offers an explosion of aromas that range from notes of cherries and plums in alcohol to spicy hints of vanilla and cloves. Pleasant hints of tobacco and cocoa. Warm and enveloping sip with elegant and well-integrated tannins. The finish is persistent, with spicy and undergrowth hints that invite another sip.

Pignolo 2018 is a perfect wine to accompany important and structured dishes such as roast meat, game and mature cheeses; in particular it goes very well with a braised meat in red wine or a plate of potato gnocchi with wild boar ragĆ¹.
