Tazzelenghe, a native grape variety of Friuli Venezia Giulia, is a rare and precious grape that finds its maximum expression in the Colli Orientali del Friuli. Its name, which in Friulian means “tongue cutter”, evokes its tannic and robust nature, but also its ability to give wines of great character and longevity.
A black grape, after a period of oblivion, in which the cultivation of this grape was almost totally abandoned, in recent years it has been recovered by only 8 producers in its hilly area of origin.
La Viarte estate, located in Prepotto, in the heart of the Colli Orientali, extends over 23 hectares of vineyards in a predominantly hilly area characterized by ponca, a marly-arenaceous soil particularly suited to growing vines. The valley, very narrow and mountainous to the north, channels the cool and dry winds coming from the Balkans. The company philosophy is to produce wines that are an authentic expression of the territory, respecting nature and biodiversity.
Tazzelenghe Riserva 2015 by La Viarte is a wine that strikes for its complexity and elegance. The grapes, hand-picked and carefully selected, are left to macerate on the skins for 15 days, fermentation takes place at temperatures between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius with frequent pumping over. The wine then ages in French oak barriques and tonneaux for at least 24 months, followed by bottle aging for at least 48 months before being released for sale.
It has an impenetrable ruby red color. On the nose, the bouquet is broad and complex, with notes of ripe berries, plums, spices, tobacco and dark chocolate. In the mouth it is austere, decisive, broad and persistent, with powerful but not aggressive tannins and a pleasant freshness. The finish is long and enveloping, with spicy and toasted returns.
The Tazzelenghe grape gives wines that pair perfectly with red meat dishes, game and tasty cheeses. To enhance its characteristics, a good tip is to pair it with a plate of braised meat and polenta, a venison fillet accompanied by a berry sauce or a platter of aged cow and goat cheeses.
In conclusion, the Tazzelenghe Riserva 2015 by La Viarte is a wine that embodies the soul of Friuli Venezia Giulia, a territory rich in history and tradition. Its austere elegance and complexity make it an ideal wine for special occasions, a perfect companion for moments of conviviality and pleasure.
