Pinot Noir is one of the most fascinating and complex vines in the world wine scene. Originally from Burgundy, it is known for its elegance, finesse and ability to express the terroir in an authentic way. Its cultivation is demanding, requiring specific climatic conditions and great mastery, both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
Located in the heart of the Alto Adige wine region, in Pochi Salorno – south of Bolzano – Von Blumen is a family-run company, founded in 2013, that stands out for its pursuit of excellence and respect for traditions. Von Blumen’s philosophy is to enhance the territory; the vineyards, exposed to the West, are located on steep terraced slopes between 500 and 1000 meters above sea level, and are rooted in soils of calcareous-porphyritic origin.
The 2022 Pinot Noir 514 is one of the highlights of Von Blumen’s production. This wine stands out for its elegance and complexity, the result of careful work in the vineyard and in the cellar. The grapes come from vineyards located on hilly terrain at 514 meters above sea level, characterized by a cool and breezy climate: ideal conditions for the maturation of Pinot Noir.
The harvest is carried out strictly by hand, the grapes are then delicately destemmed and pressed. Fermentation takes place with maceration on the skins in stainless steel containers at a controlled temperature. It then ages in large wooden barrels.
Upon visual examination, the 2022 Pinot Noir 514 presents itself with a transparent ruby red color. On the nose it offers a rich and layered bouquet where notes of fresh red fruits emerge, such as strawberries and raspberries, accompanied by floral hints of violet and delicate spicy notes.
On the palate it is a true hymn to balance. The well-integrated freshness and acidity give the wine a liveliness that invites the next sip. The tannins are soft and velvety, creating an elegant and persistent structure. On the palate, the red fruits are revealed again, accompanied by earthy notes and a light minerality that recalls the terroir of origin.
As for pairings, the Pinot Nero 514 2022 lends itself to different gastronomic interpretations. It is ideal with white meat dishes, such as Ligurian-style rabbit or chicken with almonds. It pairs splendidly with medium-aged cheeses and typical first courses of Alto Adige such as dumplings with speck and cheese and tagliatelle with mushrooms and sausage. It does not disappoint when accompanied by a fish stew or stewed cuttlefish with peas.
In short, the 2022 Pinot Noir 514 from Von Blumen is a sensory experience that deserves to be discovered and appreciated, reflecting the passion and dedication of a company that has made quality its motto.
